What delivery apps really cost a restaurant.

Marketplace apps bring new customers, but they take a share of every order. Here is what the main plans charge in 2026 and how restaurants keep more of each sale.

DoorDash and Uber Eats are useful for discovery: they put your restaurant in front of people who have never heard of you. The trade-off is a commission on every order, including orders from regulars who would have ordered from you anyway.

DoorDash marketplace plans

DoorDash lists three marketplace plans on its merchant pricing page. The delivery commission depends on the plan; pickup orders are charged at a lower rate.

PlanDeliveryPickup
Basic15%6%
Plus25%6%
Premier30%6%

Payment processing fees are charged on top. DoorDash also offers its own commission-free online ordering tool for a restaurant's website, with a processing fee.

Uber Eats marketplace plans

Uber Eats uses a similar tiered model in the United States.

PlanDeliveryPickup
Lite20%7–10%
Plus25% (30% on some Uber One orders)7–10%
Premium30%7–10%

Rates can differ by market and contract, so always check your own agreement. Figures above are from the companies' published pricing and 2026 industry guides (sources below).

What that means on a real order

On a $40 delivery order, a 25% commission is $10 and a 30% commission is $12, before payment processing. If a restaurant does 300 marketplace delivery orders a month at that size, that is $3,000 to $3,600 a month in commission alone. Your numbers will differ, but the math is worth doing with your own order history.

Keep the apps for discovery, move regulars to your own channel

  • Put ordering on your own website. A branded ordering page with your menu, modifiers and pickup or delivery zones, so returning customers order direct.
  • Make it easy to find. Link "Order online" from your Google Business Profile, your website header and your social profiles.
  • Give a reason to order direct. Loyalty points, a small direct-order discount or a free item works better than asking.
  • Answer the phone. Phone orders have no commission. An AI receptionist can take them when your staff are busy.
  • Watch the numbers. Compare marketplace and direct order volume monthly and adjust your marketplace plan if needed.

How we help

We built iWantFoods for exactly this: commission-free online ordering and POS on a flat monthly subscription, with payments going straight to the restaurant through Stripe. We also build restaurant websites with an AI host, like Cappadocia, and set up AI phone answering for phone orders.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is it worth leaving DoorDash completely?

Usually not. Most restaurants keep marketplace apps for new customers and move regulars to direct ordering, which has no commission.

Does commission-free ordering still have fees?

Card processing fees still apply, as with any card payment. There is no percentage commission on the order.
